Henley Kindergarten

About Us

Kia ora and welcome to Henley Kindergarten

Our committed teaching team works in partnership with family/whanau to provide a flexible and stimulating educational programme based around the interests of children, sporting, and cultural events, and celebrations. Our programme offers a balance between structured and non-structured learning opportunities where children and adults can experience the fun and humour of learning together. This inclusive approach encourages and supports children’s independence and sense of belonging.

Children’s emotional well-being and social skills are nurtured through the use of small groups, large educational puppets, and imaginative play. Our indoor and outdoor environments are attractive and richly resourced allowing children to explore their surroundings while being supported and challenged.

Our programme encourages the development of physical skills, which directly impact on young children’s brain development and learning.   This approach is based on the latest neuro-educational research. These skills are then enhanced by Lee Corlett (Sports Initiative Nelson). We also have a strong commitment to giving children strategies that promote healthy life choices.

Te Reo and tikanga Maori are woven throughout the programme and our environment. Our Whare o Nga Mea Maori is an area in which children/parents/whanau and teachers can explore the natural world.

We believe that a successful and seamless transition to school is vitally important to life-long learning and actively work with all schools in our area to ensure this occurs. We are situated on a unique educational campus consisting of Waimea College, Waimea Intermediate, Henley School, Henley Kindergarten and Futures Early Education. This gives our kindergarten the ability to share resources, facilities and a professional partnership, which in turn fosters a strong sense of community to enhance your child’s learning experiences.

At Henley Kindergarten it is our philosophy to offer opportunities for children to develop skills for life-long learning within a safe environment.

We look forward to spending time with you and your family during your child’s journey through Kindergarten.

Feel free to call in and visit anytime.
